The senseless and brutal killing of George Floyd at the hands of the police and the painful reality that his death is only the latest in a series of similar tragedies have broken our collective hearts wide open. It is clear we have so much more work to do to right the wrongs that exist in our society today.
As our founder Ray Anderson said, once your eyes are open to the interconnectedness of the web of life, you cannot walk back on that shift in your heart and mind. At Interface, we have taken a hard look in the mirror, and we commit to doing better. We don’t have all the answers right now, but we know we cannot simply denounce racism. We must actively combat racism and take action to protect the fundamental human rights of all people.
We commit to humbly educate ourselves about this challenge, and we will take actions to address it at our own company and across our supplier network. The first step is to hear from our team about the challenges they face, the insights they can provide, and to better understand the depth and scope of institutional racism so that we can address it.
We have seen how our small company can spark a movement that changes industries. Change is needed now, and we commit to explore every facet of our business globally as we work to raise awareness about and prevent the inequities that divide our society.
